PART VI - Jesus and Creation
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are
in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
TRINITY ARGUMENT: SINCE JESUS CREATED EVERYTHING, HE MUST BE GOD.
REBUTTAL: THE CONTEXT OF COLOSSIANS 1 SHOWS THAT ORIGINAL CREATION CANNOT BE
UNDER CONSIDERATION, FOR IN VERSE 15, JESUS IS CALLED A CREATURE, i.e., THE
FIRST CREATURE BORN FROM THE DEAD; A NEW TYPE OF BEING, THUS A NEW CREATION,
OF WHICH HE IS FIRST. A CREATED BEING, OF WHOM HE IS FIRSTBORN. HE COULD NOT
HAVE CREATED HIMSELF, THEREFORE, THERE MUST BE ANOTHER TYPE OF CREATION
BESIDES ORIGINAL CREATION, AND THIS SECOND TYPE OF CREATION MUST BE THE ONE
IN WHICH JESUS WAS INVOLVED, IN SOME WAY THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE JESUS TO ACT
UPON HIMSELF.
THE CONTEXT UNDER CONSIDERATION:
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be
partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:13 Who hath delivered us
from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his
dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the
forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven,
and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and
for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18
And he is the head of the body, the church who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And,
having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all
things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or
things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in
your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his
flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable
in his sight 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not
moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was
preached to every creature which is under heaven; where of I Paul am made a
minister;
WHAT THEN ABOUT CHRIST AND CREATION?
The word "made" means to make something different, changed from what it was.
It does not refer to creating something out of nothing. Jesus "made all things new."
Jon 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made
that was made.
AN EXAMPLE OF HOW THIS WORD (translated "made") IS USED IN OTHER PASSAGES:
Luke 23:12 And the same day Pilate and Herod WERE MADE friends together: for
before they were at enmity between themselves.
NOTE: Pilate and Herod were not "created" friends, they became womething
different, or changed, from what they were before, i.e., enemies.
IN ISAIAH, GOD TELLS US THAT HE LAID THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE EARTH, AND
STRETCHED FORTH THE HEAVENS; THIS IS THE ORIGINAL CREATION:
Isa 51:13 And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the
heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth;......
GOD THEN PROCEEDS TO TELL ISAIAH OF THE PREPARATION HE HAS MADE SO THAT HE
"MAY PLANT" THE HEAVENS AND LAY THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH; THIS CONSTITUTES
A NEW PLANTING, AND A NEW STRETCHING, YET FUTURE:
Isa 51:15 But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves
roared: The LORD of hosts is his name. 16 And I have put my words in thy
mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant
the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou
art my people.
THE PROPHETS SPEAK OF "NEW THINGS," WHICH ARE IN SOME WAY SEPARATED FROM
"FORMER THINGS."
Isa 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I
declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Isa 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth shall ye
not know it?
NEW NAME:
Isa 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy
glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD
shall name.
NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH:
Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former
shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
NEW COVENANT:
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not
according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that
I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my
covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my
people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every
man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the
least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive
their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
JESUS DID NOT CREATE ANYTHING; HE BROUGHT "ALL THINGS HAVING FAVOUR WITH GOD"
TOGETHER IN A NEW SENSE, THUS "MAKING ALL THINGS NEW." i.e. IN A NEW RELATIONSHIP.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old
things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new.
NOTE: these "new creatures" are what conprise the "New Creation."
A NEW TESTAMENT:
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins.
2 Cor 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of
the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth
life.
A NEW COVENANT:
Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
A NEW DOCTRINE:
Mark 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among
themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with
authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
A NEW COMMANDMENT:
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I
have loved you, that ye also love one another.
A NEW CREATURE:
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor
uncircumcision, but a new creature.
A NEW MAN:
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of
commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one
new man, so making peace;
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in
righteousness and true holiness.
A NEW WAY OF LIFE:
Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through
the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
A NEW HEAVEN & EARTH:
2PE 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and
a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
A NEW NAME:
Rev 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and
will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no
man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
A NEW CITY:
Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God,
and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God,
and the name of the city of my God, which is "new Jerusalem," which cometh
down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God
out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
A NEW SONG:
Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book,
and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to
God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
ALL THINGS NEW:
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And all things were "made new" in Christ Jesus, from the doctrine which he preached, to the "new Jerusalem" after the fall of the old, in 70 a.d.
This "making new" does not reference some creation after the final judgment, but focus on a "new" environment, in which Christians will rule the earth, through prayer, and righteous living. I would surmise, we have a long way to go. So far, historically, the "perceived" church has been instrumental in causing more civil unrest, more wars, more hatred and prejudice, more calamity in the name of God, than all the other religions of the world, combined.
Going back to the bible, searching out the scriptures for doctrine, instead of "commentaries of men," would be a good starting place. Worshipping God the father, through his son, would be a nice step. And Loving our fellow man would be a crowning jewel. As log as we turn to men for doctrine, let a committee, or synod, or board of directors, or any such body, whether scholars or perceived "laymen" dictate doctrine on behalf of an ignorant society, in no way alays responsibility. We are all going to stand in judgment for our deeds, (or lack thereof) and will not be excused on the basis of what some man told us.
I have privately published a book about the pre-existant deity of Christ.
