Comets, and stars by the millions
frollicked and raced,
and each other chased,
Like the sky was their private pavillion;
and started to fret,
because nothing was getting done.
So they set aside day for cutting the hay,
and the night was for having star-fun.
and tossing wild star-gloss,
'Till the sky was dizzy with fleeing;
And when out of control, their play turned to chaos,
and that's how the world's came to being;
Said the neighbors must think we're a fright.
When The Moon came a'courtin',
and saw them cavortin',
she decided to leave by daylight;
Till all things were under control,
But the Moon couldn't stay
past the twenty-eighth day,
Having a path of her own she must stroll;
With the "sleepy" dust in their eyes
The Moon got the job
of controlling the Mob,
And the Sun got a good night's sleep.
till eternity's end it will last;
Into groups they divided,
And names they decided,
After choosing an all-star cast.
While a third chose the water to bear;
The Big dipper was next,
placed on high to be seen,
The North star was the jewel in her hair.
Each star-child took its place,
In the order of things heav'nly,
it must be admitted,
Sun and Moon sure do things with grace.
grace the sky for our delight,
But for a time there,
Law and Order was bare,
When the Moon saved the day, for the Sun.
Heaven's children were born,
And Order restored,
By the hand of the Lord
When the Moon gave He charge o'er the night
