Will the real Jesus please stand up? part I

It seems to me, from reading some of the thoughts presented elswhere in this forum, that many folks differ in opinion as to who, or what, the Jesus of the Testaments, was really all about. I believe the only way to achieve any degree of accuracy as to what the scriptures teach appertaining thereunto, is to start with the scriptures. Go back beyond traditions of men, beyond "Doctrines" of various denominations, all the way to "Thus sayeth the Lord." I suggest looking at the Jesus of prophecy; the Jesus of fulfillment of prophey; and the Jesus warped by "doctrine and tradition."

I do not address issues to Unbelievers, nor to Athiests, nor yet to diehard traditionalists; I address my remarks to seekers of the real Jesus of Nazareth.

This will only serve as a starting place, if any are interested in a study of scripture

TRINITY ARGUMENT: THE BIBLE SAYS JESUS IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER; THEREFORE, HE MUST BE GOD!

REBUTTAL: Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The bible says Jesus was a MAN yesterday (prophecy), A MAN today (gospel age), and therefore he will be A MAN forever.

I. Take a look at the Jesus of Prophecy, as he fulfills those same prophecies:

GOD DENIES BEING MAN: Hosea 11:9 ... I am God, and not man;

GOD CREATED MAN: Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

CHRIST IS SEED OF THE WOMAN: Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

A MAN SANCTIFIED OF GOD: John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

GOD RAISED UP A MAN: Deut 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Deut 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

LUKE IDENTIFIES THIS MAN AS JESUS CHRIST: Acts 3:20 And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

AS ALSO DOES THE HEBREW LETTER: Heb 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son...

JESUS DID NOT PREACH HIS OWN DOCTRINE: John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, my doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

JESUS ACKNOWLEDGED THE "COMMAND" OF DEUT 18, AS FROM THE FATHER: John 14:29 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

A MAN, GOD'S FELLOW: Zech 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

JESUS CLAIMS THIS FOR HIMSELF: Mark 14:27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

A MAN WHO WILL BUILD THE TEMPLE OF GOD: Zech 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

A MAN WHO SAID HE WOULD RAISE THE TEMPLE: John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

A TEMPLE BUILT OF MEN: 1 Cor 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Cor 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 2 Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

JESUS, CORNERSTONE OF THE TEMPLE OF GOD: Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

JESUS, A MAN APPROVED OF GOD: Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

JESUS, A MAN RAISED FROM DEATH: Acts 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. Acts 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

JESUS WAS MADE BOTH LORD AND CHRIST: Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

WORLD TO BE JUDGED BY THAT MAN: Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

JESUS, A MAN PROMOTED: Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world (age), but also in that which is to come:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

JESUS, A MAN HIGHLY EXALTED: Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

JESUS THE MAN, A MEDIATOR: 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

JESUS, A MAN MADE BETTER THAN ANGELS: Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

God raised up a man, made of him a prophet like Moses, gave him a mission, upon the completion of which, God exalted him and raised him above every name under heaven, and in the heavens, to the glory of the Father. The problem is, men have taken this glory unto themselves by raising this man Jesus to the state of Godhood, or deity. and they give the glory to christ. Is it any wonder the "Christian" community is fragmented, hate-filled, floundering, and unable to lead a sin cursed world to God?

I have privately published a book on the subject of the pre-existant deity of Christ, fact or fiction? I will be glad to study this theme with any serious bible student. Theophilus Book
