Many people, when asked to explain John 1:1, simply reply, "In the beginning, Jesus was the word. I can't explain it, but that is what it says. He was with God, and He was God."

Somehow, some mystical concept has grown up around the teaching of this verse in John, and it is a shame, because the truth of the matter is so much more profound.

The logos of God is best understood, if one can understand the article in the the Sixtieth Anniversary issue of Life Magazine, on page 42, an article about Charles Lindberg, in which is stated, "The first man to fly from North America to Europe, was the american Dream made flesh."

NOTE: the personification of the American Ideal, is here typified as the "AMERICAN DREAM MADE FLESH!" This is precisely the idea presented in the Gospel of John chapter one, in which he states that the logos of God was made flesh and dwelt among us. What, from the beginning, was a "concept" in the mind of God, was personified first in the person of Jesus Christ, and subsequently in the lives of his followers.

God says of His logos, in Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word (logoi) is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. And again in Isaiah 55:11, So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

God himself shows that his logos is a concept, beginning in his mind, gaining strength through utterance, culminating in fruition.

Look at how the Logos of God had its fulfillment in the church;

Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words (Logos) are true and faithful.

2Pet 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new Earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.

THE logos FULFILLED

THE logos FULFILLED
Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the New Covenant......

Mat 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

1Co 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteous- ness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

THE FULFILLING OF THE logos IS FOUND IN MANY OTHER NEW THINGS

NEW COMMANDMENT:
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

NEW DOCTRINE:
Mark 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

NEW TONGUES:
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

NEW AND LIVING WAY:
Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

NEW TESTAMENT:
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is she for many for the remission of sins.
2 Cor 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

NEW CREATURE:
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

NEW MAN:
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of command- ments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

NEW JERUSALEM:
Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

NEW SONG:
Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

THE logos STILL PERSONIFIED TODAY IN THE GOSPEL MESSAGE:
1 Tim 1:15 This is a faithful logos, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.......

THE logos OF GOD IS TO BE BOTH COMMANDED AND TAUGHT:
1 Tim 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1 Tim 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
1 Tim 4:9 This is a faithful logos (saying) and worthy of all acceptance. 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 These things command and teach.

AND CONSTANTLY RE-AFFIRMED:
Titus 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. 3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our saiour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a faithful logos, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

WE PARTAKE OF CHRIST:
Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ if we hold the begining of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

AND CHRIST PARTAKES OF US:
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

THE logos HAS BEEN WITH THEM FROM THE BEGINNING:
1Jhn 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the logos which ye have heard from the beginning.
NOTE: The "BEGINNING" referenced in the New Testament, is the "beginning of the gospel," unless the context indicates otherwise. Notice the use of "the beginning" in the writings of John, for example.

YET JESUS WENT AWAY AND LEFT THEM:
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

THEREFORE, THE logos UNDER CONSIDERATION WAS THE "CONCEPT" DEFINED BY GOD HIMSELF, AND PERSONIFIED BY JESUS IN HIS LIFETIME, AND BY HIS SAINTS TODAY.

THAT SAME logos MUST REMAIN IN US:
1 John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

YOU MUST REMAIN IN THAT WHICH YOU ALREADY KNOW:
1 John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
2 John 1:5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

AND THAT WHICH YOU ALREADY KNOW MUST REMAIN IN YOU:
1 John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

THE SEED OF GOD IN US IS THE logos, PERSONIFIED IN JESUS CHRIST, AND NOW PERSONIFIED IN HIS SAINTS:
Luk 8:11 ...The seed is the logos of God.
1Jhn 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

AND THE PERSONIFICATION OF THE logos HAS ALSO BEEN WITH US FROM THE BEGINNING:
1 John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. 14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the logos of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

GOD HAD AN IDEA, WHICH HE NAMED logos; WHICH WAS PERSONIFIED IN HIS SON JESUS;
WHICH IS PERSONIFIED IN HIS SAINTS TODAY, AS THEY RELINQUISH CONTROL OF THEIR LIVES, AND,
YIELDING TO HIS CONTROL, BECOME THE PERSONIFICATION OF JESUS IN THE WORLD.
AND IT IS NOT EVEN BY THEIR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR FAITH BUT, BECAUSE JESUS HAD FAITH IN HIS FATHER THAT HE COULD DO WHAT HE HAD PROMISED,
AND LIVED HIS LIFE ACCORDING TO THE STRENGTH OF THAT FAITH.

Mat 27:43 He trusted in God....
2Co 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written,
I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

PAUL SPEAKS OF THE PERSONIFICATION OF CHRIST IN US:
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me, and gave himself for me.

AND AGAIN:
2Co 4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

THE logos of God was personified in His annointed Christ, and remains to be personified in His saints, daily.We should live out our days striving to personify the word of God, both logos and rhema.
